In Georgia, Basisbank charges foreign cards nothing for lari withdrawals, while Bank of Georgia takes 3 lari (about €1.04) and TBC Bank 5 lari (€1.73) per withdrawal. ProCredit charges €8, billed in lari, and Liberty Bank’s fee is unclear. The two big networks pay out up to 1,000 lari (€346) at a time. As of 29 October 2026.
The fees are small, but they differ by bank and by currency. Take out lari, not dollars, and use Basisbank, Bank of Georgia or TBC. Then the Georgian side costs you between 0 and 5 lari per withdrawal. If your bank wants an app approval at the machine, you need data: the POVNOMAD Georgia eSIM starts at €2.90.

✓✓ = confirmed by two independent sources, ✓ = single source so far. Basis: POVNOMAD fee dataset (ATM Fee Saver, as of 1 September 2026), checked on 29 October 2026 against backpackmoments.com (updated 14 January 2026), madloba.info (updated 29 September 2026) and, for ProCredit, the bank’s published fee schedule (archived copy, because procreditbank.ge rejected our request). Euro amounts at the National Bank of Georgia rate for 29 October 2026 (€1 = 2.8875 GEL). The fee shown on the ATM screen is what applies.
How much do 3 or 5 lari add up to?
Bank of Georgia and TBC charge a flat amount. Its share shrinks as you take out more:
| You withdraw | in euros | Bank of Georgia (3 GEL) | TBC (5 GEL) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 GEL | €69.26 | 1.5 % | 2.5 % |
| 500 GEL | €173.16 | 0.6 % | 1.0 % |
| 1,000 GEL | €346.32 | 0.3 % | 0.5 % |
ProCredit sits apart: €8 on a 500-lari withdrawal is 4.6 percent. Use it only if no other machine is around.
One open point concerns Bank of Georgia. Our dataset lists a percentage fee with a 3-lari minimum, which would make larger withdrawals more expensive. A second source for that percentage is missing. Travellers and the Georgian guide madloba.info report 3 lari per withdrawal. We found no tariff from the bank itself, so read the amount on the screen when you withdraw a larger sum.
Should you withdraw lari or dollars?
Lari. Many Georgian ATMs also pay out US dollars, but the fee for dollars is higher. TBC charges 15 dollars for a dollar withdrawal of up to 500 dollars, both in our dataset and in the January 2026 travel guide. For everyday spending you need lari, and dollars add a second exchange when you change the notes.
What should you press at a Georgian ATM?
If the machine offers to convert the amount into euros, labelled “With conversion”, “Accept” or similar, decline. Choose “Without conversion” or the lari amount. Then your card network converts at its own rate. Our dataset marks Liberty Bank as a machine where accepting the conversion adds an extra charge.
Check the displayed fee before you confirm. If it is higher than in the table, cancel: as long as no cash has come out, cancelling costs nothing. The full walkthrough, with the screens, is in With or without conversion?
What does your own bank add?
The 0, 3 or 5 lari are the Georgian operator’s charge. Your own bank may add a foreign currency fee, because the lari is not the euro, and a fee for cash withdrawals outside the European Economic Area, which Georgia is not part of. Both are in your bank’s fee schedule. We name no conditions of individual card issuers; they change often, and only your bank can confirm them.
A credit card is the more reliable backup if your debit card is blocked for withdrawals outside Europe. Check in your online banking before you fly that international use is switched on.
Why do you need a signal at the ATM?
Many banks ask you to approve a withdrawal abroad with a push notification in their app. With no data connection, the card is declined. The POVNOMAD Georgia eSIM starts at €2.90 for 1 GB over 7 days, a week of unlimited data costs €10.90, and it runs on Magti 4G according to the product page. Validity starts when it first connects in Georgia.
If you land in Tbilisi or Kutaisi and need more than 1 GB, Magti’s tourist SIM at the airport is cheaper than our eSIM (15 lari for 5 GB over 15 days, as of 10 October 2026). The details are in Georgia SIM card for tourists, the provider prices in the Georgia eSIM comparison. Going on to Armenia? See ATM fees in Armenia and Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on one trip.
