ATM Fees in Armenia: Seven Banks Charge Nothing, Ameriabank Now 1,500 Dram

Last updated on 30 October 2026

In Armenia, seven banks charge foreign cards nothing at their ATMs: Ardshinbank, Unibank, VTB Bank, Armeconombank, AraratBank, Artsakhbank and Amio Bank. Ameriabank, the network many travellers meet first, has charged 1,500 dram (about €3.73) per withdrawal with foreign cards since 16 March 2026. Most machines pay out up to 150,000 dram (€373) at a time. As of 29 October 2026.

So the bank you pick decides your cost. Walk past the Ameriabank machine to an Ardshinbank or Unibank ATM and the Armenian side costs you nothing. What remains is the conversion question on the screen and whatever your own bank adds. If your bank wants an app approval at the machine, you need data: the POVNOMAD Armenia eSIM starts at €2.90.

What does a withdrawal at Ameriabank cost you?

Ameriabank’s 1,500 dram is a flat charge, so its share depends on the amount:

You withdrawin eurosAmeriabank feeequals
20,000 AMD€49.791,500 AMD7.5 %
50,000 AMD€124.471,500 AMD3.0 %
100,000 AMD€248.941,500 AMD1.5 %
150,000 AMD€373.411,500 AMD1.0 %

At the seven fee-free banks, each of those withdrawals costs 0 dram on the Armenian side. Ameriabank announced the change on its own website: from 16 March 2026 it charges 1,500 dram for cards issued by foreign banks and 500 dram for cards of other Armenian banks. Older travel guides still call Ameriabank free, and our own dataset listed it as “0 or 1,500 depending on the card” on 1 September.

If you only see an Ameriabank machine and need cash now, take out a larger amount once instead of several small ones. Four withdrawals of 25,000 dram cost 6,000 dram, one of 100,000 costs 1,500.

What should you press at an Armenian ATM?

Some Armenian machines offer to convert the amount into your home currency, labelled “Accept conversion”, “With conversion” or similar. Decline. Choose “Decline conversion”, “Without conversion” or “Charge in AMD”. Then your card network converts at its own rate, and your bank adds what its fee schedule says. Our dataset marks ACBA Bank and Converse Bank as machines where accepting the conversion adds an extra charge.

Check the displayed fee before you confirm. 0 dram is normal at the seven banks above. If the screen shows a charge there, cancel: as long as no cash has come out, cancelling costs nothing. Why the conversion button costs so much, and what it says on each screen, is in With or without conversion?

Can you withdraw dollars or euros in Armenia?

Some ATMs pay out US dollars or euros as well as dram, according to ATM Fee Saver’s Armenia guide (February 2026). For daily spending you need dram, and a foreign-currency withdrawal adds a second conversion if you later change the notes. Withdraw dram and decline the machine’s conversion.

What does your own bank add?

The 0 or 1,500 dram is the Armenian operator’s charge. Your own bank may add two items: a foreign currency fee, because the dram is not the euro, and a fee for cash withdrawals outside the European Economic Area, which Armenia is not part of. Both are in your bank’s fee schedule. We name no conditions of individual card issuers; they change often, and only your bank can confirm them.

A credit card from your home country is the more reliable backup if your debit card is blocked for withdrawals outside Europe. Check in your online banking before you fly that international use is switched on.

Why do you need a signal at the ATM?

Many banks now ask you to approve a withdrawal abroad with a push notification in their app. With no data connection, the card is declined. The POVNOMAD Armenia eSIM starts at €2.90 for 1 GB over 7 days and runs on Vivacell 4G according to the product page. You install it at home by QR code, and validity starts when it first connects in Armenia.

If you land at Zvartnots and stay a week or more, the local tourist SIM for 2,500 dram with 15 days of unlimited data is cheaper than our eSIM. What each operator sells, and when the eSIM still pays off, is in Armenia SIM card for tourists. Plans and prices of all providers are in the Armenia eSIM comparison.
