Dubai eSIM with unlimited data: POVNOMAD vs Airalo vs Holafly

POVNOMAD Unlimited Smart costs €8.90 for 3 days in Dubai and €16.90 for 7 days, Airalo €11.50 and €24.50, Holafly €11.90 and €25.50. The product is sold as a UAE eSIM and works across all seven emirates, Abu Dhabi and Ras al Khaimah included. Up to 15 days Smart is the cheapest of the three.

The comparison at a glance

Fair use: for Unlimited Smart, POVNOMAD states both figures, 1 GB of full-speed data per day and a steady 1 Mbit/s afterwards, reset every 24 hours. Airalo’s UAE product page states no threshold, its general fair-use page names 3 GB per day followed by 1 Mbps. Holafly’s Dubai pages give neither a threshold nor a throttled speed. Up to 15 days Unlimited Smart undercuts both competitors at every duration: €16.90 against €24.50 and €25.50 at 7 days, €32.90 against €43.50 and €46.90 at 15 days. Neither Airalo nor Holafly publishes a 21-day price for the UAE, where POVNOMAD charges €47.90.

Each provider defines “unlimited” for itself. Airalo’s general fair-use page reads: “when you use more than 3GB in a day, we’ll slow down (or ‘throttle’) your internet speed to 1 Mbps for the rest of that day.” Holafly gives no GB figure for Dubai and says only that throttling lasts one day at most. POVNOMAD prints 1 GB and 1 Mbit/s on the product page.

At 30 days the picture turns around. Unlimited Smart costs €63.90, Airalo €64.00. The prices sit level, and Airalo gives you three times the daily full-speed allowance for it. For a month of heavy daily use, buy that one duration from Airalo. If you spend most evenings on Wi-Fi, 20 GB for €35.90 or 10 GB for €19.90 beats both unlimited plans.

The price per day does not fall with every tier: 15 days cost €32.90 (€2.19 a day), 21 days €47.90 (€2.28 a day). For a short trip with more headroom, Unlimited L raises the daily allowance to 2 GB at €14.90 for 3 days and €23.90 for 5 days. One note on buying: purchases in the POVNOMAD app earn up to 10 percent of the amount paid as credits, redeemable on your next order. The web shop does not award credits. The prices in the table stay the same, the credits lower the bill on your next trip. On €63.90 for 30 days of Unlimited Smart that is up to €6.39 towards your next trip.

The network difference

The UAE has two mobile operators: e&, known as Etisalat until 2022, and du. The POVNOMAD eSIM connects to a local 4G network, Etisalat for example. Airalo names “Etisalat” on its UAE product page, Holafly names “DU” (both retrieved 5 September 2026).

The POVNOMAD UAE eSIM runs on 4G, while Holafly advertises 5G where available for Dubai. du reports 98.5 percent 5G population coverage for the UAE in the trade press. Maps, ride-hailing apps, messengers and bookings all run over 4G in Dubai, and if 5G matters to you, check that before you buy.

POVNOMAD shares without a separate data cap, Holafly caps the hotspot at 1 GB per day, Airalo publishes no hotspot figure on its UAE page.

As a tourist you buy the eSIM online and no Emirates ID is involved. e& asks for one when you migrate a local prepaid line to a permanent plan.

Calls from Dubai

Internet calling is regulated in the UAE. According to e&, it requires an internet calling plan and approved apps. Whether WhatsApp or FaceTime calls go through depends on that, and no eSIM changes the rule. Messages, photos and voice notes work as usual.

The rule belongs to the country and covers hotel Wi-Fi as much as any provider’s eSIM. Your home number stays reachable on your second profile, at your carrier’s roaming rates.

Data packages instead of unlimited

A week in Dubai with maps, a ride-hailing app and WhatsApp messages does not need unlimited data.

Which plan for which trip

Navigation, the ride-hailing app, WhatsApp messages, bookings on the move: on an ordinary day in Dubai that mix stays under 1 GB. You spend the whole day online without paying for 3 GB you leave unused. On the days it does go over, Unlimited Smart drops to 1 Mbit/s and maps and messengers keep working.

A stopover of two or three days: Unlimited Smart costs €8.90 for 3 days, Airalo €11.50, Holafly €11.90. For maps, check-in and messages alone, 1 GB over 7 days at €4.90 covers it.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi in a week: Unlimited Smart costs €16.90 for 7 days, Airalo €24.50, Holafly €25.50. You take the Metro out to the Marina, book an evening desert safari in the morning and call a car after the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Upload video every day and Airalo’s 3 GB serves you better.

Roaming from your home contract

The UAE sits outside EU roaming, and carriers across Europe place it in one of their more expensive travel zones. Several of them switch data roaming off outside the home region until you book a travel pass. Check what your own contract charges for the UAE before you fly.
