Brazil eSIM with unlimited data: POVNOMAD vs Airalo vs Holafly

POVNOMAD, Airalo and Holafly all sell an unlimited-data eSIM for Brazil. POVNOMAD Unlimited Smart starts at €7.90 for 3 days, Airalo at €11.00, Holafly at €11.90. Smart suits travellers who stay online all day without burning 3 GB: 1 GB at full speed daily, then maps and messengers keep running at 1 Mbit/s.

The comparison at a glance

Fair use: for Unlimited Smart, POVNOMAD states both figures, 1 GB of full-speed data per day and a steady 1 Mbit/s afterwards, reset every 24 hours. Airalo’s Brazil product page states no threshold, its general fair-use page names 3 GB per day followed by 1 Mbps. Holafly’s Brazil pages give neither a threshold nor a throttled speed. A higher daily threshold only pays off if you reach it: stay under 3 GB a day and you are paying there for data you leave on the table. Prices are subject to change.

Unlimited Smart undercuts both competitors at every duration in the table: €7.90 against €11.00 at 3 days, €58.90 against €75.50 at 30 days. In exchange, Airalo allows three times the daily full-speed data. Each provider defines “unlimited” for itself anyway. Airalo’s general fair-use page reads: “when you use more than 3GB in a day, we’ll slow down (or ‘throttle’) your internet speed to 1 Mbps for the rest of that day.” Holafly’s Brazil page says only that throttling “can last a maximum of one day”. POVNOMAD prints 1 GB and 1 Mbit/s on the product page.

Work out the daily price before you move up a tier for Brazil. Seven days cost €14.90, which is €2.13 a day. Ten days cost €21.90, which is €2.19 a day. The longer plan costs more per day here.

For more headroom on a short trip, POVNOMAD Unlimited L raises the daily allowance to 2 GB: €13.90 for 3 days, €21.90 for 5 days, €28.90 for 7 days. From 10 days on we advise against it. One note on buying: purchases in the POVNOMAD app earn up to 10 percent of the amount paid as credits, redeemable on your next order. The web shop does not award credits. The prices in the table stay the same, the credits lower the bill on your next trip.

The network difference

Brazil has three national mobile operators: Vivo, Claro and TIM. The POVNOMAD eSIM connects to a local 5G network, TIM for example. Which one you get depends on where you are. Airalo names “TIM” on its Brazil product page, Holafly names “VIVO” (both retrieved 5 September 2026). Neither Airalo nor Holafly names Claro as a partner network.

5G does not yet cover all of Brazil. According to Anatel figures quoted in the Brazilian press, 5G reached about 64.94 percent of the population in early December 2025, and the regulator aims for 80 percent by the end of 2026. In Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Salvador you get 5G or solid 4G. Coverage drops in the Amazon region and in thinly populated areas.

Hotspot rules separate the three offers. POVNOMAD sets no separate data cap for sharing. Holafly caps the hotspot at 1 GB per day, which is 7 GB across a 7-day plan. Airalo says nothing about hotspot use on its Brazil page.

Brazilian carriers traditionally ask for a CPF, the Brazilian tax number, before they sell a local prepaid SIM. Travel blogs report that TIM and Vivo have issued tourist plans against a passport since late 2025. You buy the eSIM online without a Brazilian tax number and install it from a QR code before you fly.

Data packages instead of unlimited

For two weeks in Rio with maps, WhatsApp and a few photos, you do not need unlimited data. The data packages sit below the unlimited prices.

The gap widens at the top end: 20 GB for 30 days costs €32.90, Unlimited Smart for the same 30 days €58.90. Stream on the Wi-Fi where you sleep and 20 GB carries you through a month for €26 less.

Which plan for which trip

Navigation, WhatsApp with voice notes and photos, ride-hailing apps, bookings on the move, some Instagram: on an ordinary travel day that mix stays under 1 GB. You spend the whole day at full speed without paying for 3 GB you leave unused. On the days it does go over, Unlimited Smart drops to 1 Mbit/s and maps and messengers keep working. Stream two hours of HD in the evening and Airalo’s 3 GB a day serves you better.

Rio and the coast, seven to ten days: Unlimited Smart costs €14.90 for 7 days and €21.90 for 10 days. Between Copacabana, Sugarloaf and day trips up the coast, navigation runs constantly. If you spend most evenings on the Wi-Fi where you stay, 5 GB for 30 days at €12.90 covers it. For a week of streaming and reels, take Unlimited L for 7 days at €28.90.

A round trip through Rio, Iguaçu and Salvador, two to three weeks: maps, bus bookings and domestic flights run through your phone several times a day. Unlimited Smart costs €30.90 for 15 days and €41.90 for 21 days. Airalo and Holafly show no 21-day list price.

A long stay, one month and up: 20 GB for 30 days costs €32.90, Unlimited Smart for 30 days €58.90. With Wi-Fi in your apartment, 20 GB lasts the month. Roaming from your home contract

Brazil sits outside EU roaming, and carriers across Europe place the country in one of their expensive travel zones. Several of them block data roaming outside their home region by default until you book a travel pass.
