A POVNOMAD eSIM for Tunisia runs on Ooredoo’s 4G network across the whole country, so it works in Djerba, Hammamet, Monastir, Sousse and Tozeur. A week of unlimited data (Unlimited Smart) costs €14.90, and 5 GB for 30 days costs €7.90 (prices as of 30 September 2026).
For coverage, the choice of network barely matters: Ooredoo, Orange and Tunisie Telecom sit less than 1.3 points apart on nPerf’s 4G coverage index. Your signal drops in the desert.
Which network does a Tunisia eSIM use: Ooredoo, Orange or Tunisie Telecom?
Tunisia has three mobile operators. This is how they compare, as of 30 September 2026:
| Ooredoo | Orange Tunisie | Tunisie Telecom | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Share of mobile subscriptions (January 2025) | 42.9 % | 26.5 % | 30.4 % |
| nPerf 4G coverage index (Sept 2025 to Aug 2026) | 92.43 % | 91.35 % | 91.21 % |
| nPerf 5G coverage index (same period) | 57.44 % | 57.16 % | 53.86 % |

Market shares according to Tunisie Numérique for January 2025. Coverage index from nPerf measurements with its Android app between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026, published on 23 September 2026 (reported by Kapitalis and Espace Manager). Score from the nPerf 2025 barometer with 111,424 tests, published on 19 January 2026 (La Presse de Tunisie). Networks as named on povnomad.com, airalo.com and esim.holafly.com on 30 September 2026.
Our Tunisia eSIM connects to Ooredoo on 4G. According to the product page, 5G is not included. Airalo also names Ooredoo with the network type 4G. Holafly names “Orange Tunisia / Ooredoo Tunisia” and advertises 5G where available.
For coverage, the three networks come out level. For speed, they do not: the nPerf barometer for 2025 puts Tunisie Telecom (77.2 Mbit/s download) and Orange (49.1 Mbit/s) ahead, and Ooredoo third, with the biggest gain of the year at 31.2 per cent. Maps, WhatsApp, video calls and booking apps run fine on 4G. If you upload large video files every day, a provider with 5G on Orange or Tunisie Telecom can be faster. Prices of all three providers sit in our Tunisia eSIM provider comparison.
Do you get signal in Djerba, Hammamet, Monastir and Sousse?
Yes. Our product page states that the eSIM is valid nationwide, including Djerba, Hammamet, Sousse and Tunis, and that the signal depends on your location and the local network build-out. nPerf shows how wide the regional gap can be: 5G coverage reaches 83.9 per cent in Greater Tunis and 27.7 per cent in the south-west. For your hotel, check the nPerf coverage map for Ooredoo in Tunisia before you book.
| Region | Airport | Typical trip | Plan that fits (30.09.2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Djerba: Houmt Souk, Midoun, hotel zone | Djerba-Zarzis (DJE) | beach week with hotel Wi-Fi | 5 GB, 30 days, €7.90 |
| Hammamet and Nabeul | Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE) or Tunis-Carthage (TUN) | beach plus day trips to Tunis and Carthage | Unlimited Smart, 7 days, €14.90 |
| Monastir and Sousse | Monastir (MIR) | beach plus El Jem and Kairouan | Unlimited Smart, 10 days, €20.90 |
| Tozeur and Douz | Tozeur-Nefta (TOE) | 2 to 3 days, organised tour | Unlimited Smart, 3 days, €7.90, plus offline maps |
Plan suggestions for typical use; prices from povnomad.com/en/produkt/tunisia-esim/ on 30.09.2026. Unlimited Smart gives you 1 GB at full speed per day, then a steady 1 Mbit/s; the counter resets every 24 hours.
Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi (instructions for iPhone and Android). The validity starts on first contact with the partner network in Tunisia, not at purchase, and you have 120 days after purchase to activate it. After landing, switch the eSIM on, set it as your mobile data line and enable data roaming for it.
A beach week on Djerba with Wi-Fi at the hotel stays small: maps, WhatsApp and photos fit into 5 GB. In Hammamet, Monastir or Sousse, trips to Tunis, El Jem or Kairouan keep navigation running all day, so Unlimited Smart suits you better. If you stream every evening outside the hotel Wi-Fi, Unlimited L doubles the daily full-speed allowance to 2 GB: €27.90 for 7 days.
What about Tozeur, Douz and the Sahara?
In the desert, signal gets thin with every provider. Holafly writes on its own Tunisia page that coverage “may be weaker, less stable, or unavailable” in parts of the Sahara, on the Chott el Djerid salt lake, in Jebil National Park and on desert routes near Tataouine (retrieved 30 September 2026). nPerf measures only 27.7 per cent 5G coverage in the south-west. No eSIM brings data where no mast reaches.
Load offline maps for Tozeur, Douz and the route in between before you set off, and agree a meeting point with your group. In town, our eSIM works on Ooredoo 4G. Once you pass 1 GB in a day on Unlimited Smart, messages and maps keep running at 1 Mbit/s.
Which plan fits a winter stay of four weeks or more?
For winter 2026/27, the German tour operator DERTOUR lists Tunisia among its most booked short and medium-haul destinations, alongside Spain with the Canary Islands, Egypt, Turkey and Germany (Tophotel, 6 August 2026). If you spend a month or more in Monastir, Hammamet or on Djerba, you need a plan that covers 30 days and a way to extend it.
- With Wi-Fi in your apartment: 20 GB for 30 days costs €23.90.
- Without fixed Wi-Fi and with daily video calls home: Unlimited Smart for 30 days costs €58.90, for 21 days €41.90.
- For eight weeks, two 20 GB plans of 30 days each cost €47.80. Instead of a second eSIM, you can top up the first one under “Top up eSIM” in your delivery email or in the POVNOMAD app.
The longest single plan runs 30 days. If you spend the winter on a Tunisian SIM instead of an eSIM, you have to register your phone on Sajalni within 30 days; prices and rules are in Tunisia SIM card for tourists. The overview of our unlimited eSIMs explains the Smart, L and XL tiers. For cash, the second running cost of a long stay, see our guide to ATM fees in Tunisia.
