POVNOMAD Unlimited Smart for Bali costs €8.90 for 7 days and €32.90 for 30 days. Airalo’s unlimited plan costs €24.00 and €61.50. POVNOMAD sells it as an Indonesia eSIM, so one profile covers Bali, Lombok, Java and the whole country. Smart gives you 1 GB at full speed every day, then a steady 1 Mbit/s. Airalo throttles at 3 GB.

The network difference

The POVNOMAD eSIM for Indonesia carries five networks: Telkomsel 5G, XL, Smartfren, Natrindo and Fren/Hepi. Your phone picks the strongest one available where you stand. Ride from Canggu to Padang Bai harbour and on to Lombok, and the same profile stays active.

Search for a Bali eSIM and the name Telkomsel comes up fast. Travel blogs report that Telkomsel covers Nusa Penida, Lombok and the Gili Islands better than the other carriers, and that on boat crossings it is often the only network with a signal. Telkomsel sits among the five networks on this eSIM.

Airalo names Tri (Hutchison) as the primary network on its Indonesia product page, plus one further network it leaves unnamed (retrieved 5 September 2026). Holafly names “XL (Excelcom) / Telkomsel” on its German Bali page and on its Indonesia page.

Each provider defines “unlimited” its own way. Airalo’s general fair-use policy reads: “when you use more than 3GB in a day, we’ll slow down (or ‘throttle’) your internet speed to 1 Mbps for the rest of that day.” Holafly’s Indonesia page says only that the fair usage policy “is temporarily applied for no more than one (1) day”, with no GB figure attached. None of the three providers checked sells an unlimited plan for Indonesia that stays unthrottled.

No provider promises you a signal at a named spot. Travel blogs report the weakest coverage of the three Gili Islands on Gili Meno, dropouts at the Nusa Penida viewpoints, and no network at all on the Rinjani summit or on Komodo island. Download maps and tickets before you board the boat.

Data packages instead of unlimited

Plenty of Bali trips work without unlimited data. Save your maps offline, use the villa Wi-Fi in the evening, and a fixed package costs you less.

The daily rate does not drop with every longer tier. Unlimited Smart works out at €1.13 a day over 15 days and €1.14 over 21 days. Count your actual travel days before you buy. Which plan for which trip

Ten to fourteen days on Bali with stops in Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu fit Unlimited Smart for 10 days (€11.90) or for 15 days (€16.90). You start the scooter with navigation running, order from the QR menu in a warung, send voice notes and book the boat transfer in the evening. Days like that usually stay under 1 GB, so the 3 GB a day other providers sell would sit unused. Upload video every day and you do use Airalo’s 3 GB, which makes it the right pick for that job. Light users take 5 GB for 30 days (€5.90).

Island hopping across Bali, the Gili Islands and Lombok often runs three weeks. Airalo lists no price for 21 days, while POVNOMAD charges €23.90 for Unlimited Smart over 21 days. Navigation keeps running on the fast boat to Gili Air, and once the high-speed gigabyte is gone in the evening, maps, messengers and email carry on at 1 Mbit/s.

A month of remote work in Canggu costs €32.90 with Unlimited Smart over 30 days. If you sit on coworking Wi-Fi all day and need the eSIM for the ride there and for the weekend trip to Nusa Penida, 20 GB for 30 days (€15.90) covers you. One entry note: Indonesia has an IMEI registration requirement for devices used over a longer period, so check the rules of the customs authority Bea Cukai before you travel.
