An unlimited eSIM for the UK costs €4.90 for 3 days and €24.90 for 30 days with POVNOMAD Unlimited Smart, against €10.50 and €61.50 with Airalo. Smart gives you 1 GB at full speed each day, then a steady 1 Mbit/s. Airalo throttles at 3 GB a day. POVNOMAD Unlimited XL uses that same 3 GB threshold for €48.90 over 30 days.

The comparison at a glance

Fair use: POVNOMAD states both figures on the product page for Smart and XL, the daily high-speed allowance and the speed after that (a steady 1 Mbit/s). Airalo states 3 GB per day and the drop to 1 Mbps on a general fair-use page, not on the UK product page. Holafly names neither for the UK. Holafly prices are left out on purpose: its UK product page and its own UK roaming guide quote different per-day prices and different hotspot allowances on 5 September 2026 (1 GB a day against 500 MB a day), so check Holafly prices directly at esim.holafly.com/de. Columns three and four hold the useful comparison. Unlimited XL and Airalo Unlimited both slow down after 3 GB in a day, so they sell the same daily high-speed allowance on the same terms. Over 30 days that costs €48.90 with XL and €61.50 with Airalo. Over seven days, €12.90 against €24.00.

Most visitors never touch 3 GB. A day of walking London with maps open, messaging home and booking a museum slot stays under 1 GB. Smart covers a full week of that for €7.90 and keeps you online once the gigabyte is gone, at 1 Mbit/s, with no top-up and no cut-off. The unlimited plans overview explains both thresholds.

One note on buying: purchases in the POVNOMAD app earn up to 10 percent of the amount paid as credits, redeemable on your next order. The web shop does not award credits. The prices in the table stay the same, the credits lower the bill on your next trip.

The network difference

The UK has three nationwide networks. EE belongs to BT, O2 to Telefónica, and Vodafone UK and Three UK completed their merger into VodafoneThree on 31 May 2025. POVNOMAD lists “Three, O2 or Vodafone, 4G/5G” for its UK eSIM and leaves the choice variable, so your phone registers on whichever network reaches it. Airalo names EE on its UK product page as “the primary network the eSIM uses”.

Holafly lists “Orange UK / T-Mobile UK / H3G UK / VirginMediaO2 UK / Vodafone UK” on its UK pages. Orange UK and T-Mobile UK stopped existing as separate networks when they merged into EE in 2010, so that list describes the country as it looked more than fifteen years ago.

On coverage, Ofcom summaries for 2026 put outdoor 5G between 76% and 94% depending on the operator. The gaps sit in the Scottish Highlands and the Hebrides, in rural Wales and in parts of Northern Ireland, where any network can drop for hours and a British SIM card would not help either. Data packages instead of unlimited

Two weeks in England with hotel Wi-Fi at night rarely needs an unlimited plan. Fixed packages cost less and cover the same trip.

Which plan for which trip

For four days in London, Unlimited Smart costs €4.90 for 3 days or €7.90 for 7 days. You navigate the Underground, book the Tower of London on your phone in the queue and upload photos from the pub in the evening. Light users get through the same trip on 3 GB for 30 days at €4.00.

A Scotland road trip from Edinburgh through Glencoe to Skye usually runs two to three weeks. Smart for 15 days costs €12.90 and for 21 days €17.90. Airalo shows no 21-day list price for the UK. If you stream in the campervan or run video calls with the office, XL for 15 days at €25.90 gives you the 3 GB daily allowance instead.

Trips that cross borders need one decision more. Northern Ireland belongs to the UK, so Belfast and the Giant’s Causeway run on the UK eSIM. The Republic of Ireland is an EU member state and needs the separate Ireland eSIM from €4.90. Roaming from your home contract

If you live in the EU, check your plan first, the UK is usually still included. German, French and Spanish operators kept the UK in their EU roaming zone after Brexit as a voluntary decision, so your domestic allowance often applies in London the way it applies in Lisbon. Read your operator’s roaming page before you buy anything.

Travellers from the United States, Canada or Australia face a different bill. Home operators there sell daily international passes or monthly add-ons, and two weeks on a daily pass often costs more than the entire 30-day Unlimited Smart plan at €24.90.
