Opensignal measured the Thai networks from 1 April to 29 June 2026. AIS won the Coverage Experience award with 8.9 of 10 points, dtac and TrueMove H scored 8.6 each. In the South region, where all the islands on this page lie, AIS users had a connection 99.4 percent of the time, dtac users 99.3 and TrueMove H users 99.1 percent (Opensignal, August 2026<\/a>). The same report says True Corporation finished integrating the dtac and TrueMove H networks in 2025, so both brands now share one infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Our eSIM names AIS and TrueMove and reaches both infrastructures. Your phone picks the stronger signal where you stand. If a beach bar shows full bars and nothing loads, choose the other network by hand under Settings > Mobile networks > Network operators, the path our product page gives. For 2025, the nPerf ranking put TrueMove H first with 85,644 points, ahead of AIS with 83,226 and dtac with 77,478. How good is reception on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe?<\/h2>\n

Opensignal collects its time-on-network figures where its users spend their time, mostly indoors. The company writes that these figures do not tell you whether you will get a signal in a remote spot. On a small island, plan the last kilometre to your bungalow without mobile data.<\/p>\n

Do you keep a signal on the ferry between the islands?<\/h2>\n

On the busiest crossing, True says yes. In August 2026 the operator wrote that it had expanded 5G along the whole journey from Surat Thani airport over the pier and the ferry route to Koh Phangan. AIS said in November 2024 that its network covers coastal areas, islands and sea routes on the Gulf and on the Andaman coast. Neither operator publishes a coverage map per ferry route, and we found no independent measurement at sea.<\/p>\n

Screenshot your ticket, the pier name and the departure time before you leave the hotel Wi-Fi. If the connection drops halfway, you still have what you need at the pier.<\/p>\n

Does mobile data hold up at the Full Moon Party?<\/h2>\n

We found no measurement of network load on Haad Rin during the party. Wikipedia puts the crowd at 5,000 to 30,000 people every full moon. True says it reinforced 5G at Haad Rin and Thong Sala in August 2026 and prepared the network for large numbers of simultaneous users during an event on the island. For a full-moon night itself, no operator has published figures.<\/p>\n

Agree on a meeting point and a time with your group before you go, and save your accommodation’s location offline.<\/p>\n

What does the winter high season mean for your connection?<\/h2>\n

The Gulf and the Andaman coast get their rain at different times. In the climate normals for 1991 to 2020, Koh Samui averages 444.6 mm of rain in November, 263.1 mm in December and 64.3 mm in February. Phuket averages 350.4 mm in September, 82.0 mm in December and 24.0 mm in February. The Thai Meteorological Department expected the 2026 rainy season on the east coast of the South to last until December.<\/p>\n

Rain does not switch off an eSIM, but on a stormy day you want your documents at hand without a connection. Keep boarding passes, the hotel address and ferry times on the phone itself, not in an app that needs mobile data.<\/p>\n

You can install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi (instructions for iPhone and Android<\/a>): the validity starts at the first connection to the partner network in Thailand, and you have 120 days after purchase to activate it. Only a Thai SIM. Since August 2025, Thai operators must verify every new SIM registration with a live face check, and foreigners register with their passport. Is there mobile signal on Koh Tao and Koh Lipe?<\/h3>\n

We found no operator statement or measurement for either island. Opensignal’s figures for southern Thailand show a connection more than 99 percent of the time, measured where users spend their time.
