Tunisia inverts the usual advice. Everywhere else the rule is to withdraw a lot in one go rather than a little several times. That does not work here: machines often dispense only 300 to 800 dinar<\/strong>, the lowest limits in our entire dataset. And even where you can take more, you should not \u2014 the Tunisian dinar may not be taken out of the country.<\/strong> Whatever is left on departure day becomes a problem.<\/p>\n

As of 12 September 2026, from the POVNOMAD fee dataset (ATM Fee Saver, as of 1 September 2026), not individually cross-checked per bank. What was confirmed on 12 September 2026 is the overall picture: fees of a few euros, and daily withdrawal caps of roughly 300 to 600 dinar. Our dataset gives Amen Bank a much higher per-transaction figure of 2,000 dinar; a daily cap may differ. The figure shown on the ATM screen is what applies.<\/small><\/p>\n

Amen Bank is worth the maths<\/h2>\n

At first glance Amen Bank is the most expensive at 14 dinar. Because of the limit it is usually the cheapest anyway:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Getting 2,000 dinar from the 300-limit machines means seven withdrawals at 10 dinar, so 70. At Amen Bank it is a single 14. That is the difference between 3.3 and 0.7 percent.<\/p>\n

But<\/strong> 2,000 dinar is around \u20ac590. Whether you should withdraw that at all is the real question, and the next section answers it.<\/p>\n

The dinar cannot leave the country<\/h2>\n

The Tunisian dinar is a closed currency. Export is prohibited, and outside Tunisia it is effectively impossible to exchange back \u2014 bureaux de change abroad generally will not take it.<\/p>\n

That leads to planning which contradicts the advice in almost every other country:<\/p>\n
