What happened? The BTK block explained<\/h2>\n

In July 2025, Turkey’s telecommunications authority BTK (Bilgi Teknolojileri ve \u0130leti\u015fim Kurumu) issued a decision blocking access to several international eSIM services. The authority requires providers to hold a Turkish licence, use Turkish mobile networks or store data on servers in the country. Providers that fail these requirements end up on the block list.<\/p>\n

The block targets the providers’ websites and apps when accessed from Turkish networks. eSIM technology itself remains legal. If you try to buy, activate or top up with a blocked provider while in Turkey, you cannot reach their site any more. Travellers also report that eSIMs from blocked providers survive an in-country activation for one or two days before the connection drops.<\/p>\n

Which eSIM providers are blocked in Turkey?<\/h2>\n

The BTK decision of July 2025 named eight providers: Airalo, Saily, Holafly, Nomad, Instabridge, Mobimatter, Alosim and BNESIM<\/strong>. By early 2026, industry observers counted more than 30 blocked services (as of 25 August 2026). The BTK keeps extending the list and publishes no complete overview.<\/p>\n

The reports since July 2025 show one pattern: eSIMs bought and installed before entering Turkey keep working. Trouble hits travellers who buy or activate after arrival, because that path runs through the blocked websites and apps.<\/p>\n

So handle everything that needs a connection to the provider at home on Wi-Fi: buy, scan the QR code, install the eSIM. After landing, you switch on data roaming for the eSIM and you are online.<\/p>\n
